MILESTONE: 3rd UNESCO International Arts Education Week Celebration at BBHS (Mission)

When the world celebrated the 3^rd UNESCO International Arts Education Week, BBHS (Mission) was at the centre of the celebration in Nigeria. BBHS (Mission) was featured in the landmark publication of the celebration on TELL Magazine on page 5 of the May 26, 2014, No. 21. 
 

With the support from ART SCOUT we organized an Art exhibition in celebration of the International Arts Education Week at our Art studio. The title of the exhibition was THE MAN OF PEACE which features paintings, drawings, and wearable arts created by the Art teacher, Mr. Olusegun adeniyi and Art students. And also a work created by the principal, Dn. Abel Adebajo was on displayed. Mr. Adeniyi created series of art from a concept he made to epitomize Beautiful Nubia (a stage name for popular Nigerian music artist, Dr. Segun Akinlolu). Part of the designs were hand printed on a dyed and plain background sewn fabric (wearable art); and was also painted on canvas. For him, Beautiful Nubia is a man of peace and he has exhibited that several times through his songs. He has a lot of tracks from his albums (Jangbalajugbu, Awilele, Fere, Kilokilo, Sun no dey sleep, oriojori, and most recent Keere), songs that provide inspiration for love, peace and harmony.

The Art exhibition was declared open by the school principal, Dn. Abel Adebajo. Apart from the Art teachers; NTA (Nigeria Television Authority) Abeokuta, BBHS students and students from other schools also grace the event. Dr. Segun Akinlolu (Beautiful Nubia) was at the exhibition. He ignited the exhibition and had a chat with the NTA, and the Art teachers at the Art Exhibition. His presence made the exhibition remarkable and the celebration of the 2014 International Arts Education Week a memorable one. Mr. Adeniyi was also invited on OGTV’s New Dawn programme to represent the Nigerian Art teachers to create awareness for the celebration of the International Arts Education Week and to discuss the Importance of Art education in our society on Friday 23^rd May, 2014 by 9am. Mr. Adeniyi has this to say: To succeed today and in the future, the children will need to be inventive, resourceful   and imaginative. And the best way to foster that creativity is through arts education. Art education is a dynamic tool for growth in our developing world.
