PERIODIC TABLE by Miss Rita Alagboso
The
Period Table is an Instructional material constructed to aid effective teaching
of Chemistry in Senior Secondary School classes. Instructional materials are used
to improve students’ knowledge, abilities, and skills, to monitor their
assimilation of information, and to contribute to their overall development and
upbringing.
There
are three basic types of instructional materials: concrete objects, including
objects from the world of nature; representations of concrete objects and
phenomena; and descriptions of such objects and phenomena by means of the
signs, words, and sentences of natural and artificial languages.
The periodic table is the most important classification of
element in the chemistry. It was first arranged by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869.
The periodic laws were that the properties of an element are
a periodic function of the atomic numbers. In the periodic table, element with
the same number of valence electron are arranged in groups while elements with
the same number of electron shells are arranged in periods.
Element in the same group show very similar properties since
their atom has the same number of electrons. These elements are arranged as
members of a family.
The elements in the periodic table may be divided into
blocks according to the orbital electron that are responsible for the position
of the electrons. The s block has s electron in the out most energy level, while
the p block has both s and p electron. The transition elements contain d
electron with s an electrons while the lanthanides and actinides contain f
electron in addition to the s, p and d electrons.

BBHS PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION 2013
BBHS PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION 2013
To curb the growing graduate unemployment rate, the Federal
Government has introduced 32 trade entrepreneurial subjects to the Senior
Secondary Schools curriculum and made it mandatory for all students to take at
least one trade subject since the commencement of the 2011/12 Academic session.
The aim is to encourage job creation, economic self reliance, and promote
constructive and productive engagement of Youths to arrest the problem of Mass
unemployment and incidences of anti social activities. As part of the effort of the management of
B.B.H.S. (Mission) to facilitate its students social, emotional and cognitive
growth and put them on the path to reach their full potentials in life has
packaged the works of its students from the PHOTOGRAPHY class (One of the
approved trade/entrepreneurial subjects for the school by NECO/WAEC) for the
public view. The essence was to create
understanding and dynamic result oriented of the photography class. The exhibition was intended to instill in the
students the sense of intellectual wonder and aesthetic adventure on the path
of still- imaging. Documenting moments – really we cannot go back in time but
with these pieces the children are offered the chance to take a step backward
and appreciate the time spent, events of the past and happenings in their
academic adventure at BBHS. Acquisition
of these set skills from the Photography platform will offer the students the
opportunity to build a life for themselves and their communities. The event was held on 26th and 27th of March,
2013.
OGTV was at the BBHS PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION and
it was covered for a short documentary on the station’s morning program ‘NEW
DAWN’ which was televised today, Thursday 28th March about 8:42 am.
Other media houses at the Exhibition were THE SUN newspaper, the GUARDIAN,
NEWSWATCH newspaper.
